Presto Hydraulic Scissor Lifts
For modern warehouses, distribution centers and other material handling businesses, hydraulic scissor lifts — like those we stock from Presto — make a world of difference when it comes to how you make use of the vertical space in your facility. With speed, precision and reliability, Presto scissor lifts can help take the danger and tedium out of your material handling processes.
Let’s take a closer look at how these warehouse workhorses — designed completely with you, the end user, in mind — make quick work of lifting needs. While all scissor lifts operate on predominantly the same mechanical principles, finding the right unit for your particular needs might require a discussion with one of our experienced customer service representatives. Feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.
The Basics of Hydraulic Scissor Lifts
With their ability to safely lift and move products of practically any size and weight, industrial scissor lift tables have quickly become a staple machine of warehouses and material handling centers that want to make better use of their storage space. They allow businesses to be more profitable without having to increase the footprint of their facilities.
To understand the basics of how scissor lifts work, it’s important to first consider how their primary components function in unison to deliver the performance you’d expect in a high-quality piece of lifting equipment.
- Top platform: The top — or platform — of a scissor lift is used to lift and transport products and/or people. When a platform carries only products, it’s typically in the form of a flat table top. However, if it also lifts people to height, some type of railing system is included with the platform.
- Bottom base: The bottom — or base — of a scissor lift serves two purposes. First, it acts as a foundation for the entire lift mechanism. Second, it provides a system — usually made up of tracks and rollers — that the unit’s scissor legs will travel along while lifting and lowering loads.
- Scissor legs: Stretching from the base to the platform are the scissor legs, which allow the platform to rise and descend as the legs are controlled and moved by the forces of the attached hydraulic system.
- Hydraulics: Depending on the size of your scissor lift, it should contain somewhere between one and four cylinders with hydraulic fluid used to control and drive the scissor legs up and down.
In addition, scissor lifts need some type of power source — usually in the form of an electric motor. Industrial air compressors can also be a viable power source.
